The W. M. Keck Foundation Center for Extreme Quantum Information
Theory (xQIT) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
is led by Professors Seth Lloyd (Center Director) and Jeffrey H.
Shapiro (Center Co-Director). Professor Lloyd has made seminal theoretical
contributions to quantum computation, communication, and measurement.
Professor Shapiro is the Director of the Research Laboratory of Electronics
(RLE) at MIT, and he has made fundamental theoretical contributions
to quantum communications.
The faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and visiting
scientists are organized to attack xQIT's three problem areas:
- Professor Edward Farhi leads our work on solving average-case
NP-hard problems by means of adiabatic quantum computing. The other
faculty members on this team are Professors Jeffrey Goldstone,
Seth Lloyd, and Peter Shor.
- Professor Shapiro leads our work on capacity and coding for
quantum channels. The other faculty members on this team are Professors
Leonid Levitov, Seth Lloyd, Sanjoy Mitter, and Peter Shor.
- Professor Seth Lloyd will lead our team on quantum sensing
and control. The other faculty members on this team are Profesors
Leonid Levitov, Sanjoy Mitter, Jeffrey Shapiro, Peter Shor, and
Jean-Jacques Slotine
